PhD Program

CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad, invites applications from candidates who are Indian citizens, to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D. Degree. The projects offered for Ph.D. would be in the broad areas of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Developmental Biology, Plant Molecular Biology, Conservation Biology, Ecology, Protein Structure and Function, Biology of Macromolecules, Biology of Infection, Immunology, Epigenetics, Chromatin Biology and Bioinformatics

 

Admissions

  • Masters degree in any branch of Science with minimum 55% marks (without rounding off) or equivalent grade for General (UR)/General-EWS and minimum 50% marks (without rounding off) or equivalent grade for OBC (NCL)/SC/ST, Third gender and Persons with Disability (PwD).
  • The applicant should have a valid National-level Fellowship (JRF/ SRF of any funding agency, e.g. CSIR, UGC, DBT, DST, etc.) or any other equivalent fellowship like DBT-BET, INSPIRE, RGNF, etc. (TENABLE AT ALL AcSIR ACADEMIC CENTRE).

  • Online applications will be screened and eligible candidates will be called for a computer-based written test at one of their preferred centers, or a remote proctored online test
  • Candidates qualifying in the test and having a valid FELLOWSHIP for pursuing Ph.D. will be shortlisted to appear for in-person interview at CCMB. This interview would be of two rounds across two separate days.

A valid fellowship is an ABSOLUTE requirement for pursuing Ph.D. at CCMB, and the eligible fellowships are:

  • Any National level fellowship (JRF/SRF of CSIR, UGC, DBT, ICMR, etc.), DST-INSPIRE or any other equivalent fellowship for pursuing Ph.D.

  • The applicant must first register with AcSIR and choose CSIR-CCMB Ph.D. program as one of the options before applying to CSIR-CCMB.
  • The fellowship MUST be valid by the time of joining.
  • Candidates with lecturer-ship only in CSIR-UGC (NET) examination will not be shortlisted for interview.
  • Candidates will have to make their OWN arrangements for travel, stay, etc. at the examination centre and/or in Hyderabad for interviews (2-3 days). Travelling allowance is not payable by CCMB.
  • Candidates qualifying both preliminary and the final interview will be selected for pursuing a Ph.D. at CCMB. Mere fulfillment of the minimum requirements stipulated in the notification would not automatically entitle a person for selection. The decision of CCMB in this regard shall be final. Canvassing in any form and/or bringing in any influence, political or otherwise, will be treated as a disqualification.

Training Programs

Skill/Training Development Program

CSIR-CCMB has been conducting its Skilling/Training Programs under the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative since 2017 with a view to cater to both academia and industry needs. These programs target students and employees from government labs/ institutes, industries, hospitals, pathology laboratories, universities. In general, for each training program, as per the course curriculum, 20% theory and 80% practical sessions are conducted. Provision of hand out information on teaching modules, tutorials (personal attention), multimedia-assisted lectures, central facility visits within the laboratory and evaluation by assignments are held. A certificate is issued to the successful candidates.

Program Details

Project-based Student Training Programme

Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad (CSIR-CCMB) invites applications from interested individuals to undertake Project-Based Student Training. The training will be offered for six months. Further extensions for a maximum of six months on a full payment basis are based on the supervisor’s recommendation and after a committee evaluation. Candidates seeking an extension must inform the coordinator four weeks ahead. In addition to laboratory training, candidates must attend lectures on scientific ethics, etiquette, good laboratory practice, highlights of the institute’s ongoing activities, and career opportunities in life sciences.

Dissertation Program (DRTP) Research Training

Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad (CSIR-CCMB) invites applications from candidates pursuing M.Sc / M.Pharm/ M.Tech/ B.Pharm/ B.Tech in any branch of Life sciences to undertake research training towards partial fulfillment of their degree. In addition to laboratory training, candidates will be exposed to scientific ethics, good laboratory practice, and career opportunities in life sciences. At the end of the training, candidates must present their work to the scientific community at CCMB.

Candidates can apply using the online application form. Along with the application, candidates have to upload an authorization letter issued by the Head of the University / College / Institute. Candidates having a specific interest may contact respective CCMB scientists to seek their consent before applying. After submitting the online application in the prescribed format, candidates will get a confirmation email. After the screening and selection process, successful candidates will be informed by email to make payment through NEFT to the CCMB account (Account Details are given below).

Summer Training Program

The program is open to students from all branches of life sciences studying at any Indian University/College/Research Institute. However, the program is offered to students still pursuing their studies. M.Sc/ M.Tech students who completed at least two semesters, B.Tech/ B.Pharm students who completed six semesters, integrated B.Tech-M.Tech/ B.Sc-M.Sc students who completed eight semesters, MBBS/ BDS students in any year of their study and B.Sc Biosciences (4 years program) students who completed six semesters can apply. The training tenure is 60 days between May and July every year.
